When Philadelphia Was The Jewish Capitol of America, 1776-1800
After the British withdrew from Philadelphia early in the history of the American War of Independence, approximately half of the new country’s Jewish population moved to Philadelphia. Cities like New York, Charleston and Savannah remained under British control. Many Jews resettled here including Haym Solomon and Gershom Seixas. Come and learn about Philadelphia as the Jewish capitol of America, 1776-1800.
